Ldquo;A poem, being an instance of language, hence essentially dialogue, may be a letter in a bottle thrown out to the sea with the surely not always strong hope that it may somehow wash up somewhere, perhaps on the shoreline of the heart. Toward what? Toward something open, inhabitable, an approachable you, perhaps, an approachable reality. Such realities are, I think, at stake in a poem.

A sort of baby shower II. My dearest Coral treated me to a delightful afternoon tea at the Grand Hotel. Delicious treats and the best of company savored slowly. everything I attempted to cook turned out well, and all the food brought was excellent! I ended up with 9 friends over last night, and we ate until we could not eat anymore, and then we had dessert. Most of my students do not know more than that they get the day.
